Craftsman Article June 2015

Brothers and Sisters, summer is upon us. When it stops raining and everyone stops working storm rotations hopefully, we can get a break before the heat takes its toll on the system. During the summer vacation season do not leave your safety training at home, always think safety first on and off the job.

There is constant speculation and talk about the sale of Oncor. One day its NextEra becoming the stalking horse and then it’s the Hunt Brothers scheming with EFH to stay in control. Who knows what will happen? No matter who becomes the new owner rest assured IBEW Local 69 will be involved when it is time for the PUC to approve the deal.

In the mean time stay focused on safety and go home everyday whole. On June 15, 2015, the Union Negotiating Committee at Fox and Fox Management met for contract mediation with the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service. The station is not willing to move on their last, best, and final offer. The contract offer will be taken back to the membership for a vote. The Union Committee unanimously recommends ratification of the contract offer. Local 69 and WFAA will begin negotiations in July on the wage opener that is due in August for that station. Oncor has mentioned a contract extension for the bargaining unit at Oncor however; we have not seen anything in writing.

Unit meetings are scheduled for the month of July. I hope to see everyone that can make a meeting so we can talk shop. Donnie Moore’s termination arbitration is scheduled for July 23 and 24. The Union is waiting on the arbitrator’s decision in the Sam Goodson termination case.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Fourth of July Holiday. Until next time may God bless you, your family, and our local union.
